Erenburg wins NJ Futurity International

GM Sergey Erenburg has won the New Jersey Futurity International with a score of 6.5/9. His last round victory over IM Mikhail Zlotnikov sealed the victory, as penultimate round co-leader and countryman GM Leonid Yudasin drew IM Amon Simutowe. Third place went to GM Magesh Panchanathan.

NM Evan Ju, coming off his upset-prize-winning eighth round victory over GM Gennadi Zaichik, needed just a draw against FM Tom Bartell to secure an IM norm. Unfortunately for Ju, Bartell's passed c-pawn proved to be a fatal thorn in Ju's side, as he succumbed to severe time pressure in a difficult position.

The brilliancy prize went to a violent attacking display by NM Mackensie Molner, which you can replay here.

The New Jersey State Chess Federation website has a crosstable, results, and games.

Stay tuned to this blog in August, when we will preview the New Jersey Knockout inaugural season in the United States Chess League, and then check in every week during the season for results, as the Knockouts try to floor the competition.

Thanks for these tournament posts. Very well done. I was following the results every day. I'm sorry I couldn't stop by to see the action. Looking forward to the first season for the Knockouts. Good luck to all on the team!
